Bookz!

Yo, blogger'ers!! I'm finally back with another post! Sorry for keeping you guys waiting, I've only been conscious to update Twitter, so follow me if you want~

So, when I say about books, it really IS BOOKZ! I mean, there have been several warehouse sales lately: first one was by MPH, next is The Big Bad Wolf and thirdly, Crescent Warehouse Sale. Other than that, lucky for me~ Before the MPH warehouse sale, there was a stock clearanceat Carrefour, and guess what were they clearing other than stationary, clothings and other "useless" stuff...? BOOKSZ!! YES, BOOKSZ!!!

Well, since it was the 1st or 2nd day of that stock clearance, there was quite a crowd. My dad and I quickly got a trolley in case we were going to get ALOT of books, and thrus through the crowd. Eventually, we succeeded. So, the books were sold RM 5 each, but we even get authors like Michael Connelly and Kathy Reichs! So, we grabbed everything ( Technically, EVERYTHING) we could and took them to a side to consider buying them. In the end, my dad bought 5 books while I got 7~

Next was the MPH warehouse sale. By the time we arrived there, books were scattered about: table, boxes, even on the floor. Since they didn't specifically arrange them according to genre, we took our SWEET time looking through every ONE of them. So, *mimics DiNozzo from NCIS* through my perspective~ I noticed that most of the books scattered about and un-arranged are fiction (DUH), most books on sale were Charmed, Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Angel. Unfortunately for me, I saw a Supernatural: Witch's Canyon novel which is sold at RM10/15! And I bought it at a much higher price before! (Damn them!) There were many others: DC/Marvel comics, Cook Books, Biographies, Dictionaries, Kiddy Books, etc. Even noted there was Heroes: Saving Charlie and books by Kathy Reichs! But alas, I decided to buy 2 pocket-size books about Sir Edgar Allan Poe's marvelous short stories, poems and tales while my dad got nothing.

Next, 'The Big Bad Wolf' warehouse sale... When we got to the main door of the building, the people passing by us has 2 handsful of bagged books, some even put them in boxes, and I mean BIG ones! It'll be on the 2nd floor. First stack/rack/table of books will be magazines of all sorts, turn right ( We couldn't turn left, since it was blocked... ) and there will be at least 5 tables of chinese books. And furthur up will be our Heaven: ENGLISH booksz~ So, we split up: Dad went to the Biography section while I went for the Fiction section. There were so many titles and I couldn't really find novels like CSI or Charmed. And then, all of a sudden, flashing infront of my eyes, a Michael Connelly book. Of course, I grabbed it, and then, I saw another... and another, and ANOTHER! So, altogether I've gotten 7 of his beloved prizes, 3 books by Kathy Reichs, another un-popular-to-me author, and best of all, Bones: Buried Deep by Max Allan Collins! It was the 1 and only book of his I hoped I'd find, but unfortunately, there was no Criminal Minds ( Sorry, Cynthia! ) With all the Connelly books I've found, a woman even asked me where I got it. It was mixed with some other books ( they've arranged it, but without following genre ). So my dad came with a big box to box everything up, and we headed to the cashier. So what, I got 10 books and my dad got 9. Majority, me~

And for the upcoming one, it's possible I WON'T be going, since I have a Diagnostic Test Starting from yesterday and ending on the 28th of May ( WHY!?!?!?!?!? )... So bellow are the pictures of the books I've bought, descriptions are below~

Yes! All ze Michael Connelly books I've bought from Carrefour stock Clearance (The Overlook, Echo Park) and THE BIG BAD WOLF *wolf "wooing" in the background"

The Big Bad Wolf (Nameless) and Carrefour

Carrefour (Cross Bones only) and The Big Bad Wolf. Bottom right is written by Max Allan Collins~

Look at the BOOKSZ! I'm gonna read!! It might last me till the end of the year?

So, that's all the entertainment you'll get from me tonight/morning, see you guys next time!

XOXO/XXX
HAPPY!
Vivien~

Back in Business!

Everyone! Finally back blogging. I know, it's been QUITE awhile, thanks to my 2nd intervensi. Well, it started 2 days ago (20th April) and just ended 2 and a half hours ago. And after this week will be 'study, stuDY, STUDY...' since there will be our diagnostic exam... (WHY~~) So, during that long period of hiatus (started 2 weeks ago) was all 'study, stuDY, STUDY...', again...

All HISTORY! Form 1 + 2 +3 = 551 pages of History to remember/memorize. My brain was stuffed with dates and names. I thought I would have been hospitalized due to the amount of information in my head...

Revision for Science, Maths, Geography and Living Skills... Don't require much memory space...

(2 days ago - 20th April)
First day of intervensi. We had Science, Malay and English which was '2 pieces of cake'. We (my class) got distracted in between of Malay and English when a swarm of bees suddenly appeared outside of the classroom. And to our dismay, Aaron (Our class's 'Phantom') was actually enjoying the bees' presence! Our teacher ushered us back into class, and so begins the English paper. Strong wind was bloweing the door and JUST RIGHT I was sitting by the door... It banged on the door frame and startled me...

(Yesterday - 21st April)
It's time for Geography, Maths and Living Skills. Geography was quite OK, Maths was TOTALLY OK, and Living Skills were OK... Strong wind = (Door + Door frame)A shock.

(Present day - 22nd April)
*drum rolls* Today. Is THE big day. Not only is it EARTH DAY. It's also our last day of the intervensi. And guess what we have today... Moral, Chinese and... HISTORY *a woman's scream* Since I started my history revision 2 weeks ago, everything in my brain was washed out by the information for the first 2 days. Once I reached school, I was rushing with my History, Chinese AND Moral. Once we got the test paper for history, I was squeezing my brains for the answer to appear in my mind in an instant but alas... In the end, I KNOW I'M GONNA GET GROUNDED BY MY PARENTS... Chinese and Moral was ok. Save it for Moral, we used our brain power for nothing....

Currently:
Using the PC, duh!

And next week, as I typied before, will be ZE beginning of my studying month... T0T

P.S. Got 8 VERY thick novels to read! Can't wait to get started on one!

XXX/XOXO
'This is just the beginning...'

Conficker: What Happens After April 1?

Taken from ChannelWeb.com

By Stefanie Hoffman, ChannelWeb

5:53 PM EDT Wed. Apr. 01, 2009
The latest version of Conficker has undergone its much-anticipated update Wednesday, April 1, but has thus far remained inactive, leaving security researchers to ponder what is next for the notorious Internet worm.

"Nobody knows what the motive is other than to create a botnet," said Randy Abrams, director of technical education for security company ESET. "At this point, all we can do is speculate."

The newly refreshed Conficker computer worm, which has thus far incorporated millions of computers in a global botnet, evolved Wednesday with a changed domian generation algorithm that opens up unfettered communication to 500 of the 50,000 potential newly generated domains. The latest variant, Conficker C, now has the ability to contact its command and control centers for further instructions while circumventing interference from the security community, which up until now had been able to block communication with its parent domains.

So far, Conficker's update has come to pass silently, leaving many to wonder what will happen next.

"Much speculation has happened," said Stephan Chenette, Websense labs manager. "What ended up happening has so far been nothing. So far it's been kind of a dud."

But that doesn't mean that the worm will remain dormant, Chenette said. Security experts say that April 1, or April Fools' Day, has historically been a day when ma authors launch attacks. Chenette said that while Conficker's update occurred April 1, an attack could be imminent.

"April 1 is a special event. What bigger joke could malware authors play than something on April 2 or April 3?" he said.

Specifically, Conficker C is the latest variation of malware exploiting a vulnerability in the way Microsoft's Server Service handles RPC requests. Microsoft issued an emergency out of band patch in October 2008 when the exploit was detected, but was too late to prevent the worm's rapid spread.

Since October, the initial versions of the worm, Conficker A and B, made history with their ability to replicate quickly, rapidly infecting millions of machines with sophisticated techniques that ranged from brute force password guessing to transmission via USB sticks and peer-to-peer file sharing.

The previous version did not have the same self-replication powers as its predecessors but instead contained a unique ability to disable Windows Automatic Updates and Windows Security Center while blocking user access to numerous antivirus vendors' Web sites and evading security products. In addition, the previous version also was notorious for its ability to patch its own vulnerability once it infected a machine, possibly to keep other strains of competing malware from occupying the same space.

Chenette said that the chances were strong that Conficker's authors were waiting until the publicity died down before using the botnet for some kind of future criminal activity, such as a spam campaign or a denial of service attack. In the meantime, it was likely that Conficker would be used to infect more machines.

"Something is going to happen, we're all certain," Chenette said, adding that the latest worm update could serve purpose. "That purpose could be for sending spam or a denial of service attack. That purpose could be something much greater. We know it's going to be for monetary gain."

Other security experts, however, speculated that the Conficker worm could be an elaborate prank, or used to disguise a smaller targeted attack with the majority of its victims being used as a "smokescreen."

"All they'd need was a few machines achieving their goal and the rest is a smokescreen. And there's a lot of smoke," ESET's Abrams said, adding, "Why go to the trouble of creating a botnet if you don't use it?"

Abrams said that the Conficker worm posed much less of a security threat than many other types of malware, and that much of the wild speculation regarding the future of the worm will probably be irrelevant.

"I don't think it's a significantly larger threat than any of the large bots that are out there. Any other bot can update itself with evolutionary code that can be as significant as Conficker's," he said.

Instead, Abrams said that users should focus on overall security, which includes keeping Windows systems patched and installing up-to-date antivirus and firewall products, as well as disabling Windows Autorun.

"The people that are looking at overall security aren't going to be distracted by [Conficker]," Abrams said. "If you're worrying about how to prevent all those other threats that are out there, then you've already taken care of Conficker."

P.S. So, bloggers/viewers, BEWARE! Stay alert!
